The first computer I ever met was a Commodore PET in the library of our grade school. Man, that was a cool library. I made a terrarium in that room once. And it had a reading pit? It’s soon to be gone. The building has been derelict for decades, slowly rotting as trees erupt from the windows, spreading sickly fingers towards the sun. I was in second grade, I think.

The computer asked me my name, and I slowly typed it in. Then the computer responded, Hey, did you know your name backwards is Kirb Retep? And I didn’t! But I liked the sound of it. Years later I would wonder if Kirb had a better time of it than I did.
