30 Days of Autism Acceptance: 14
April 14th: What do you like about being autistic?
This question has come up a couple of times lately, and I haven’t been sure how to answer it. As a late diagnosed adult, I feel like I have spent more time identifying the problems and weaknesses in my life due to autism than I have for positive things. Not that I feel that having autism is a negative—getting the diagnosis was an amazing breakthrough for me, but that I haven’t really stopped to weigh the positives.
I’d say that living with autism all these years has given me a unique look at life. I’ve had to question a lot of things that people take for granted, and have probably thought about things in a lot of different ways that most people probably haven’t. Autism has shaped and illuminated the way that I see the world, and I wouldn’t change that.
