Stopped and talked to a squirrel, that was nice.
Red-tailed Squirrel (Sciurus rubricaudatus) from the viviparous quadrupeds of North America (1845) illustrated by John Woodhouse Audubon (1812-1862). Original from The New York Public Library. Digitally enhanced by rawpixel.

Was walking down the sidewalk, and this squirrel ran from the yard across the concrete and ran up a tree, but then he stopped and turned and looked at me, chirping softly. I wonder if someone’s been feeding him, or maybe he figured I wasn’t a threat. Anyway, I stopped to say hi, and he chirped back. He seemed wary, but he was watching me. (I totally just gendered this squirrel. It.)
