The thought I had as I read this was, “Wow, that sounds autistic to me.” I think we are known for not caring what other people think, or even not really thinking of the “morality” of our actions in terms of how they affect others. And I think think this nails it; it’s not that we don’t care if we’re being assholes; we do, I think. I think most people don’t want to be seen as assholes, and most of them aren’t aware that they are acting like one.
