Master Moose’s Odyssey

We were hit by a blizzard yesterday, so we couldn’t take the boys outside to get them some exercise. As the day wore on, their natural exuberance challenged them physically and us mentally, so we decided to do a KiwiCrate that had arrived over the holidays and had been neglected among all the other presents and packages.

This crate was all about puppets, which is where Super Gator and Side Bird came from. We repurposed some of the boxes from all the different packages and made a puppet stage.

Then we started working on a script. Here are the characters who make up our drama so far. Some are puppets we had on hand; others are stuffed animals who had puppethood thrust upon them:

Super Gator and Side Bird need to defeat Master Moose, who wants to take over the world because mankind hadn’t taken proper care of moose.

Platy the Thief is playing both sides, whoever is paying

Mega Owl, Master Moose’s flying machine that looks like an owl

General Cluck is the leader of Master Moose’s army

The Incredible Science Bleat works with Super Gator and sometimes collects penguin pottery

Potter the Penguin makes penguin pottery

At this point, the oldest child decided what was really needed was an airship (Super Mario Odyssey also arrived over the holidays, so there’s been a lot of Mario/Bowser imagination at play in our house lately). We spent some time trying to figure out which of their toys would make the best prop airship.

Unfortunately, the youngest child got bored with this, and decided that the thing to do was to get lost in Blanket Mountain, the pile of blankets and pillows thrown on his bed when we vacuumed their room earlier.

The oldest child turned his attention to rescuing the youngest from Blanket Mountain, but each time he was pulled free, the little guy would somehow get lost again. The ongoing, repeated rescue attempts took up the remaining time before dinner, and the puppet project seems to have been forgotten since.
