Lost an old friend

My belt broke today. I’m not exactly sure, but I think I got this in high school, making it about 35 years old. I think I’ve worn this belt nearly every day for the past 35 days, and now that it’s broken, I don’t know what to do. I feel so helpless and confused.
My first instinct was to try and fix it. I thought maybe I could stitch it together where the leather had ripped. But the leather had ripped because the leather had been worn down to the consistency of tissue paper through the past 35 years. Even if I had actually managed to track down needle and thread and actually managed to sit down and make the handful of stitches it would take to fix it, I don’t think the leather is strong enough to not rip again.
Then I was like, fine, I’ll order a new belt, but immediately had questions like what size? Jesus, do I have to go find a tape measure and figure out how long this thing is? How wide? Is this time to go to suspenders? Is there a good time to go to suspenders?
Fortunately, a black leather men’s belt seems to be pretty standard, and the size of the old belt was stamped on its inside. A new one should arrive from Amazon tomorrow. In the meantime, I guess I’ll just keep pulling my pants up.
