Graveyard Keeper

Graveyard Keeper went on sale in the Xbox store today, the whole package for $13 US. My brother liked it on the Switch (it doesn’t seem to be on sale there), so I decided to check it out.
It’s a top down 2D pixel art game, very similar to Stardew Valley. I generally avoid pixel games because I’m old enough that they aren’t retro for me, but rather the past I’m trying to escape into high definition and 60 frames a second. So, that’s a bar I need to get over in order to get into a pixel game at all.
Graveyard Keeper is very pretty, so that helps. And it’s very complicated. It eases you into things a little bit, but also leaves plenty of mechanics for you to puzzle out. Fortunately, all of the mechanics seem to be pretty tightly intertwined, so learning one leads you to another, and so forth. It also has a unique setting and plot, interesting characters, and dialog that made me laugh out loud during my brief intro run this morning.

Is it worth full price? I’m willing to find out, but so far, it definitely seems worth the sale price, which will be going on for a few more days.
