My first computer was a Commodore 64, back in 1981. Your choices at the time were a Commodore 64, an Apple ][, a TRS-80, a TI-994a, or one of a variety of Atari computers. They were all about the same in terms of performance, but of course they were all different, running different OSes, chips, file systems. You could write your own games in BASIC, and you stored everything on 5 1/4 inch floppy disks. You connected to networks with your 300 bits per second modem.

The C64 was a little powerhouse, with 64K of RAM, and built-in video and sound chips. Eventually I upgraded to its successor, the Commodore 128. I used those computers daily for eight years, until I got my first PC in 1989.
