It’s an extreme privilege to have a great relationship with your adult children
“I hoped that he would say, ‘Oh, my daughter is no longer talking to me–I should try to fix this.’ Sadly, he hasn’t.”
She feels at peace, despite the judgment of others. “She’s your mother–you should love her,” a close family member told Holly, who says, “We would never tell a woman who’s been abused by a partner, ‘You should go back to the person who hurt you.’ But we do for people with abusive parents, and it makes me very mad.”

I’m not a young person by any means, but finally went through this with my remaining parent. As my sibling commented, it’s weird to lose just one parent and then feel like an orphan.
