Daily Bounties in Destiny 2

I was really excited to learn that next week daily bounties will be finally coming to Destiny 2. Doing the dailies was my favorite activity in Destiny 1, and it'll be interesting to see how it's implemented in D2.
There were originally two sets of daily bounties in Destiny 1: Vanguard and Crucible. Each reset, there would be six new open world bounties from Xander, a frame in the main plaza of the Tower, and six PvP bounties from Shaxx. The open world bounties usually consisted doing patrols on a specific map, hunting down so many of a specific kind of enemy, and then modifiers to how you played, like doing Void damage or using a secondary weapon to get so many kills. Originally, you had to return to Xander to redeem them once they had been completed, but with the Taken King they made it so you could redeem them in the field.

Redeeming a bounty would give your character experience and also give you rep in one or more factions. Each faction's rep was symbolized by a diamond on your character sheet, and as you gained rep the four sides would be filled in clockwise. Filling the whole diamond earned you a level of rep with that faction and a package from the faction vendor, which you could use to get a weapon, a piece of armor, or a piece of chroma armor, which was special armor you could mod by changing the lighting effects. The new equipment was guaranteed to be higher light than what you currently were, so you could grind out light levels by doing the daily bounties, which is how I primarily played.

In Destiny 2, they got rid of the daily bounties in favor of daily challenges on each map. Each reset, each map gets three new challenges. Completing the challenges earns you some faction rep tokens for the map. Usually all three give you enough tokens to turn into the faction vendor on the map and get a faction engram, which contains at least one, sometimes two pieces of equipment, and often some shaders and stuff. The beauty of the token system is that you can hold a bunch of tokens. With the D1 system, if you missed getting your new rep package from the vendor before you gained another level of rep, the first one was gone. With tokens, you can essentially earn multiple levels of rep and turn them in when it's convenient for you.

I don't know what's going to happen with the challenges, if they're staying or going. From the statement from Bungie, it sounds like they're being replaced with bounties you purchase from the faction vendor, but we'll have to wait and see until this Tuesday how it plays out. I'm hopeful that they'll give us engrams that let us boost our light, but I have a feeling that we're going to stick with the current system that just gives you a handful of ways to boost your light each week.

I've been grinding the daily challenges since last September, so I'm excited to get something new to try out. This new system is going to stay in place into Forsaken, which launches this September, so this might be a preview of what's to come. Also, the Year One Moments of Triumph will start at the end of this month and run through August, so that will give me something else to do until the new content arrives.
