Control of The Narrative
The dominant social group labels our way of being in the world as disordered because they don’t understand us. Even though they don’t understand, the dominant culture controls the narrative about our differences.
The control of the narrative is problematic. It’s been really interesting for me over this past year to get more immersed in autistic social media, and to hear more stories from autistic voices. I think that a huge benefit of social media that is overlooked is the way it can bring a marginalized group together, so that they can at least tell their stories to each other.
