Civ VI Again

I started binging on Civ VI again. I wonder what that says about my state of mind. My gaming has been focused on Civ VI, sudoku, crosswords, and solitaire. I got some speakers for the Xbox’s monitor; now I don’t have to wear headphones to play. I also made a couch out of a futon frame and some cushion foam and slip covers ordered off of Amazon, so now the Xbox is out in the living room. It feels luxurious to say I have a living room.

So for the first time in a long time, the device that I do most of my gaming on is not where I work. In the old place, I didn’t mind it all being in one space because there was just one space. But now gaming has become more relaxing than it used to be, with a nice separate room where I can ignore the buzzes and beeps from work if I want. I can honestly sink into the couch and while away hours without thinking about work, and it’s really nice.

I finally completed, and won, my first game of Civ VI, on Prince. I’ve played hundreds of hours, but I have never played a game through all the way to the end before. I love Civ; I’ve been playing it for 30 years now, but what I’ve always liked the building and managing part over the winning. Usually, I get bored before the end, and go play something else.

But now, with my comfy new couch, and speakers, and gaming space, I found myself sticking with it, exploring the end game, trying to figure out how it worked.

I’m also experimenting with Humankind on Game Pass. Like other Amplitude games, it’s proving to be complicated and not that much fun.
