Another Day in the Dark Zone

Sunday evening, I slipped into the Dark Zone to get my daily assignment done, 10 rioters. I was in DZ01, and slunk up to Koreatown, where they tend to congregate. I found a couple packs of them, and quickly got my quota.

I was mopping up, chasing a grenadier down an alley, when I saw someone coming up behind him. My first thought was that it was an LMB striker, and I fired a shot before I realized it was another player. I instantly had old-school DZ shock set in, thinking that I’d accidentally gone rogue by hitting him, but with the new rules, you have to declare yourself as rogue before you can hurt another player.

He took out the rioter, and as I was still a little freaked, I backed out the alley, and started heading for the checkpoint to get out of the Dark Zone. I flipped around to check my six, and the other guy was following. I backpedalled a little to make sure, but yeah, he was definitely coming my way.

I went around the corner and started to head south towards the checkpoint when ISAC chimed, saying another agent had gone rogue nearby. Sure enough, a couple of shots hit me in the back. I guess my accidentally shooting him had pissed him off.

I figured anyone who would flip rogue that quickly was probably going to melt me before I could mount any sort of defense, but I didn’t want to just lie down and die, so I started doing my Irish jig emote. I’d been wanting to show it off to someone anyway. So I’m standing there dancing in the middle of the street, waiting for him to finish me off.

But the shooting stops, and he comes around in front of me. Then he starts doing the Macarena. And we stand there dancing for a minute. We both stopped at the same time. I saluted him, he saluted back. Then he trotted north up the street towards the abandoned gas station, and I headed south towards the checkpoint.

Another day in the Dark Zone, I guess.
