There's nothing that Facebook offers that can't be replicated on the open web. Companies and individuals are choosing to lock themselves in a walled garden for the sake of convenience. Facebook is just easier, and has the eyeballs.

What bothers me are the number of people who feel they can't leave Facebook because that's where the action is. The number of people who can't leave Facebook because of work is really troublesome. There's nothing magic about Facebook.
